Urban Assault – 15th Aug 09
Well… what can I say about this so called ‘Premier Urban Site’. Tatts and I arrived at the site and I was quite amazed by the amount of players and cars in the safe area. The safe area where it seemed OK to be firing your live weapons out of without any goggles. No marshals could be seen around the area we were in, only hanging around where you paid. Once Tatts and I tooled up we proceeded to the safety talk and then to be chronographed.
All of the games we played ended up in a stalemate. Once both teams met each other they would just shoot from building to building hoping to get a hit on each other. This was nearly impossible with the wind being so great! I’d say that the engagement distances were far greater then our local woodland site (CAG).
Hit taking was bloody awful!! It was the worse day airsofting I have had. Blatantly shooting someone in the back with nearly a whole clip on semi, he just stood that looking around trying to see where the shots were coming from. I finally gave up trying to shot him and proceed else where until he turned around and shot me and of course I took the hit. As I walked to the respawn point I could see around 4-5 marshals standing around chatting. It very much seemed like a social occasion for these guys!
One of the other ‘highlights’ of the day was standing in a building with two guys in the next room. I could hear one of the guys shooting and the next thing I heard was “I just shot a fucking pigeon!” and then “I’ve shot him again he just took it!”. This totally pissed me off! If it wouldn’t of been for the size of these two guys I would I said something. Another incidence was a guy with two lasers on his gun thought it was funny to shine both into my eyes at 100m more then twice!
You are probably saying what a negative review this is but there were some good moments through the day. One being Tatts setting up his m60 on top of a building and continually putting down cover fire. Another was when we were trying to clear the building next to us and Tatt decided to throw a grenade in. Well this totally missed the window and fell to the floor, doh! Despite the pigeon shooting there were actually some friendly guys there, specially one chap who had never played the game before but had managed to buy all the gear and a gun just to play for the day!
I think it will be a long time before I go back to this site!
